The Top 100 Players

Friday, 27th January 2012

Using a computerised formula Elite Sports News is able to generate a player points Projector for Dream Team & SuperCoach using a series of objective criteria against numerical historical data. Some of the objective criteria are short & long term form, strength of opponent & home/away short & long term form to name a few. These projections are estimated to be at least 20% more accurate than merely relying on season averages. (This is based on our 2011 projected results & the 2011 season averages in testing)

Elite Sports News has put no subjectivety into the rankings of these players. It is purely based on what the projection software thinks.

Note the Price rise/fall estimations are formulated behind the projected statistics. This is merely a gauge & is not exact. A lot more goes into the pricing changes than a simple formula

*The Projection software does not know about injury, pre-season form or role changes. Its a software program to make sure you never overlook anybody. It has no feelings or bias towards teams or players. Please use it as a research tool to come to your own conclusions, rather than use it as fact.

Comments: Heppell is an interesting proposition heading into his second season of his career. Winning the Rising Star award last year and playing in 22 games, now with a full pre-season under his belt would suggest he will go on this year to big things. His role is defined across the half back line, and is capable of a 90s average in 2012. We did notice last season that he slowed as the season progressed, but with his current pre-season he should have a bigger tank to play out the season.

Comments: Another Sydney midfielder with a role to play in winning football games, we wonder how much improvement he can give in fantasy scoring. He is very young at only 20 years of age and has been pegged as the next big time midfielder for the Swans. We think a 90s average is reasonable.

Comments: We hear a lot of chat about the new upside Ruck on the market for 2012, but can he average 100+ a game? He is certainly capable of going over 100 a game doing it 6-8 times in both formats of the game in 2011. His consistency is a concern with to many 60s to go with his big 100s. We certainly think he has upside at a young age of 23 years, but it may be more realistic to go with the heavyweight reliable options of Cox, Leuenberger & Sandilands. Save a spot for Jacobs. If he looks the real deal early, then bring him in to team up with one of the others.

Comments: LeCras is a class act for the West Coast Eagles. At 25 years of age, this is his season. He punishes opposition for leaving him alone for a split second, kicking plenty of goals and very little points. There is talk of a role in the midfield this season. Think of LeCras as a potential Steve Johnson type breakout player in 2012.

Comments: With the departure of Tom Scully to Greater Western Sydney, Jones's roll will need to continue to expand and help carry the load for the Melbourne midfield. He is only 23 years old, and has continued to grow further each year of his career. 2012 could be his year for a full fledged breakout.

Comments: Hartlett is a prized #4 pick in the 2008 draft, who finally came on last season to the joy of his team. But once again his season was cut short due to injury. As a midfielder playing in a bottom 10 side, you would not take the risk on him until you see that he can play a full season injury free. He has potential to become a popular pick in years to come, considering he is only 21 year old.

Comments: Sidebottom was predicted in pre-season last year to takeover and become the number 1 small forward for Collingwood for the year. Didak fell away, but Sidebottom didn't take his game to the next level. He did improve and is an excellent player but we slated him as a high 90s scorer. At only 20 years of age, perhaps 2012 is his season to step up onto the big stage.

Comments: Shaw was flying until he was suspended for the remainder of the regular season for a gambling indiscretion. He is the quarterback for the best team in the competition. He is explosive and durable and we can't see him being as bad a pick as the projector is suggesting. But the projector has no feelings. It just reads stats, so perhaps his upside is limited at his price. He is still a potential solid 90s average in your defence.

Comments: A beloved player in the Port Adelaide camp. He works hard and does carry a Forward tag on him. His injuries are of concern to us, and his consistency is shocking! We think he is a dangerous pickup, considering he is already priced high after a strong 2011. We recommend you wait to see what Port Adelaide & Gray give early, and leave him as a potential upgrade during the season.

Comments: A clinical finisher and a consistent and reliable option when St Kilda were playing top 4 football. He is 27 years old and still has miles left in the tank, but there are certainly some question marks over him. He is never going to get any midfield time. He makes a living across the half forward line with marks, kicks and goals. His ceiling is low.
