The Top 100 Players

Friday, 27th January 2012

Using a computerised formula Elite Sports News is able to generate a player points Projector for Dream Team & SuperCoach using a series of objective criteria against numerical historical data. Some of the objective criteria are short & long term form, strength of opponent & home/away short & long term form to name a few. These projections are estimated to be at least 20% more accurate than merely relying on season averages. (This is based on our 2011 projected results & the 2011 season averages in testing)

Elite Sports News has put no subjectivety into the rankings of these players. It is purely based on what the projection software thinks.

Note the Price rise/fall estimations are formulated behind the projected statistics. This is merely a gauge & is not exact. A lot more goes into the pricing changes than a simple formula

*The Projection software does not know about injury, pre-season form or role changes. Its a software program to make sure you never overlook anybody. It has no feelings or bias towards teams or players. Please use it as a research tool to come to your own conclusions, rather than use it as fact.

Comments: What happened last year? His Dream Team average fell off the planet by 18 points a game! He was a monumental flop. He did get back on track later in the season but the damage was already done. Having said that, this year with Gibbs as a midfielder, he is probably the best premium defender in the league and is at least a little cheaper to begin with than last year. Watters is expected to speed up the St Kilda game plan. This is surely going to help Goddard.

Comments: 31 years going on retirement. Scotland is an expensive player, playing in a shallow position. He is consistent and has had 2 straight seasons of playing 22 games and he is still a wanted player at Carlton, but we worry that last year was his peak.

Comments: At 30 years of age you wonder how much longer he can keep his scoring at such an elite and reliable level. He plays free across an incredibly reliable Geelong back 6. Milburn did it until he was 33 years old. Enright reads the play so well and has even bumped up his marking with his possessions dropping off slightly. We can't see any reason why Enright won't have another season averaging in the low 90s. Geelong seems to defy the odds and continue to play finals.

Comments: Deledio is an All Australian Half Back Flank and with Cotchin & Martin getting the midfield attention, he could become even more valuable than ever. He is a reliable stalwart that you can keep in your defence all season. At 24 years he has the upside to do anything, and 2012 may be his season. If its not he will still give you a low 90s average and 22 games. You can't complain with that. A very safe pick with upside included.

Round 3 Projected Price Fall:

($5,135.30)

Comments: Carrazzo has more left in the tank at only 28 years. Carlton will need a big season uninjured and uninterrupted from him. We think he is a strong premium to consider in a shallow Defence this season. His upside probably stops around the 100 average mark, but it would be exceptional if he met those heights and would more than pay for himself.

Round 3 Projected Price Rise:

$25,472.80

Comments: He has only played in 47% of games over the past 3 seasons. Durability is not his strong suit. His upside is substantial, but there seems far too many similarities between him and Shaun Higgins. If you're going to role the dice on him, then don't wait. He is not a slow starter. If he is at full health heading into Round 1, as in previous seasons coming in from injury he has had no problems adjusting to AFL level.

($4,041.40)

Comments: Birchall truly came on in 2011 at a young age of only 23, he is entering the prime of his career as a similar type player to that of Corey Enright. We have big wraps on this kid, and think he is a terrific buy in a shallow defence list this year. He plays in a likely Top 4 side and we still think he has more potential to give, especially when some of the Hawks shutdown defenders come back from injury and free him up further.

Round 3 Projected Price Rise:

Comments: Heppell is an interesting proposition heading into his second season of his career. Winning the Rising Star award last year and playing in 22 games, now with a full pre-season under his belt would suggest he will go on this year to big things. His role is defined across the half back line, and is capable of a 90s average in 2012. We did notice last season that he slowed as the season progressed, but with his current pre-season he should have a bigger tank to play out the season.

Round 3 Projected Price Fall:

($8,026.55)

Comments: Shaw was flying until he was suspended for the remainder of the regular season for a gambling indiscretion. He is the quarterback for the best team in the competition. He is explosive and durable and we can't see him being as bad a pick as the projector is suggesting. But the projector has no feelings. It just reads stats, so perhaps his upside is limited at his price. He is still a potential solid 90s average in your defence.

Comments: Newman had his usual consistent season down back for the Richmond Tigers in 2011. Supercoach suits his game better though and approaching 30, you wouldn't think he could make the jump into the 90s average unless Richmond started playing finals and had more ball control. Newman is close to retirement and 2012 will be a mentoring year developing Cotchin's leadership skills to eventually take over the top job.
