Top Cash Cows - Essendon Bombers

Thursday, 23rd February 2012

Our Pre-Season analysis continues looking at Cash Cows in more detail.

Next with the Essendon Bombers

Any Essendon Bomber Player priced around $200K or below is in this list and is Ranked based on Cash-Cow potential.

Over the coming few weeks of pre-season we are going to do an analysis on players with value from each club. Rather than just show the Top 40 list in the AFL, we are going to go deeper than that and discuss all the Cash Cow options from each team. We will discuss the players who are unlikely to get a game. The players who may get a game but are more likely to give you peanuts anyway. Our job is to give you the information. Then you can make your own informed decision.

Why do a full analysis on Cash Cows? Let’s face it, they dictate if you win or lose in fantasy land! Anybody can tell you which premiums you should take.

*Please Note the '2012 Mid Season Price Rise' is for Round 10 and is formulated behind the projected statistics. This is merely a gauge & is not exact. A lot more goes into the pricing changes than a simple formula

Comments: Kavanagh didn’t play in the championships with a hamstring injury last year and so has fallen down the draft list. This is a steal for Essendon. Kavanagh is an exceptionally fast midfielder that will have an instant opportunity to represent at AFL level if he can impress in the NAB Cup.

Kavanagh played in the NAB Championships the year previously as an underage 17 year old and was exceptional. He actually won the Matthew Lloyd clean hands test at the draft combine this year.

At TAC Cup level last year he played in 3 games averaging 18 possessions, 5 marks and 4 tackles amassing him 82 Dream Team points a game.

Cash Cow Potential: As with Heppel last year if he produces at NAB Cup, he will certainly have an opportunity to play early.

Comments: Ross plays through the midfield and across half back, getting his first chance at AFL level last year late in the season. He is fast and makes great decisions. Ross has high upside heading into 2012, after coming off as strong season in the VFL.

Cash Cow Potential: Quite expensive and a fringe 22 player with strong upside.

3   Luke Davis   D   Essendon Bombers   $104,200

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$84,265.43

Height:

190.00

Weight:

Comments: Davis is a half back /back pocket defender who at 190 cm can match up well across the board on many different shapes and sizes. Davis has good speed and terrific endurance. He has been a low possession accumulator across his junior career and seems more relevant in SuperCoach with his very strong efficiency rating.

Cash Cow Proposition: After a strong season last year at VFL, you would think Essendon will test him at some stage in 2012. In week 1 of the NAB Cup in 2 games he scored a total of 23 Dream Team points. Oh dear.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$84,265.43

Height:

Comments: Steinberg is a goal kicking key position forward, who had a standout year with the Bendigo Bombers last year. He is yet to feature with the seniors, but if he continues to perform at lower level they will be forced to give him an opportunity.

Cash Cow Potential: He is going to be in the mix.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$49,993.95

Height:

187.00

Weight:

85.00

Comments: Browne had to sit for 2 weeks in early February with a Hamstring Injury, but should be training with the main group very soon. There is quite a bit of talk about him on the track as a third year player who may break onto the scene in 2012.

His a very attacking half back flanker, who could easily play through the midfield. He has strong skills and is likely to score reasonably well if given an opportunity this season.

Cash Cow Potential: Intriguing player. Likely to feature at some stage in 2012.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$89,214.81

Height:

188.00

Weight:

91.00

Comments: As a lead up forward, some may suggest he is a little small but has a huge leap on his and a big engine. He will run his opponent into the ground. He makes good decisions and never looks rushed. He made his NAB Cup debut last weekend with Essendon. He believes he has plenty to work on in the upcoming season.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 18 possessions, 6 marks, 1 tackle and nearly a goal a game leaving him with 79 Dream Team points a game over the 5 game carnival.

Cash Cow Potential: His flexibility to play Forward or Back keeps him in the running, but probably unlikely to see in 2012.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$100,823.35

Height:

180.00

Weight:

83.00

Comments: A mature aged recruit, at 24 years old, its now or never for Baguley. He has come on the radar late from the usual relocation story of many forwards. He moved down back and has been dominating at lower level.

Baguley having the utility tag of pushing forward as well, and also being a very strong set shot for goal, may put him in the best contention for a Rookie Upgrade. At his age, they will be hoping for some strong form in the VFL.

Cash Cow Potential: A player to monitor, and wait on an upgrade. He can certainly find the ball.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$100,823.35

Height:

175.00

Weight:

81.00

Comments: Dell'Olio has been noted to be pushing hard to get off Rookie List. He collected 9 possessions, 2 goals and 45 Dream Team points over the 2 games against Fremantle and West Coast in the NAB Cup opening weekend. Hird was pleased with his efforts, with Dell'Olio taking some strong overhead marks for his size and hitting the scoreboard in both games.

Dell'Olio is a mature aged recruit (22 years), who came 2nd in the WAFL goal kicking list last year. He is a small forward.

Cash Cow Potential: Rookie Listed. Potential at his age, to play sooner rather than later.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$100,823.35

Height:

181.00

Weight:

78.00

Comments: Lee, 24 years, mature aged recruit, who wins a heap of the ball at lower level, averaging 30 possessions a game last year and finished 4th in the equivalent to the Brownlow in the WAFL. A midfielder, who will be pushing hard now to earn a spot.

Cash Cow Potential: Rookie Listed still. Likely a big time scorer and nice price. Likely more reliable options in the midfield slot for Cash Cows.

2012 Mid Season Price Rise:

$89,214.81

Height:

187.00

Weight:

70.00

Comments: At TAC Cup level last year he played in 15 games averaging 24 possessions, 6 marks, 2 tackles and nearly a goal a game amassing him 97 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 16 possessions, 4 marks and 1 tackle leaving him with 62 Dream Team points a game playing in only 3 games over the 5 game carnival.

Merrett is a young outside midfielder who recently came second in his club Best & Fairest count last year at TAC Cup level. Merrett is a very skilful an polished proposition for Essendon. As a midfielder he seems to be on the end of goals as seen above in his TAC Cup results averaging nearly a goal a game.

Cash Cow Proposition: Still very young. Too early to gauge if he would see the field for Essendon in 2012. You would suspect he wouldn't early.
