Over the coming few weeks of pre-season we are going to do an analysis on players with value from each club. Rather than just show the Top 40 list in the AFL, we are going to go deeper than that and discuss all the Cash Cow options from each team. We will discuss the players who are unlikely to get a game. The players who may get a game but are more likely to give you peanuts anyway. Our job is to give you the information. Then you can make your own informed decision.

Comments: Saad is a lightening quick 22 year old mature aged recruit for St Kilda. He was the fastest in the 20m sprint at the draft combine, and has been playing at VFL level for the past few years. He was never drafted early on, as he has only been playing AFL for just 5 years after transitioning from Soccer.

We think he will play, and we think he will turn some heads. He is a small forward and it’s a position St Kilda are searching for. He was sensational in the first match against Sydney with 4 possessions, 3 tackles and a goal for 32 Dream Team points. Let us not forget these were only 20 minute quarters. Regular AFL quarters run for 30 minutes. He was rested for the 3rd Round of the NAB Cup, but is expected to play in the final round.

Cash Cow Potential: Saad should be on your radar. He is likely to be named Round 1 and looks to be quite explosive in the forward lines.

Comments: Wilkes is another mature aged recruit who played in the WAFL last year, and won the Simpson Medal as the best player on the ground, kicking 5 goals leading his side to victory.

At 23 years of age, he spent his earlier years on the West Coast Eagles rookie list but was only given an opportunity late. He was a key defender who played 23 games between 2008 and 2009 and was delisted in 2010 after being injured all season. That was the changing of the guard where he represented Claremont in the WAFL and was shifted forward to show he has the potential of playing at both ends of the ground kicking 40 goals for the season.

Cash Cow Potential: Wilkes is targeting a start in the position vacated by Dawson at the end of last season. Quite surprising that he starts in the position which led him to being delisted by West Coast in 2010. He won't be a fantasy superstar but he looks like quite a reliable player to have.

Comments: Ledger has shown enough promise over the pre-season to suggest he will move into St Kilda's midfield rotation in 2012 and hold a spot for the season. Ledger can play through the midfield but needs to make habit of being productive up forward and hitting the scoreboard if he wants to survive in the Best 22.

Ledger has strong skills and will win his own ball. He has a background at lower level of winning a heap of the ball.

Cash Cow Potential: Quite intriguing on all facets apart from his price.

Comments: Ross is the cousin of Jobe Watson. A hard hitting strong midfielder who moulds his game on Dustin Martin. Clearance work is his specialty where he makes good decisions by hand and tackles hard when he needs to. His left foot is big and he likes to sneak forward to kick goals. His weakness is his speed which is why he lies at pick #25. He is working hard on his endurance and it’s not a necessity to have breakaway speed. Check out his cousin.

At TAC Cup level last year he played in 11 games averaging 25 possessions, 5 marks and 4 tackles amassing him 95 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 15 possessions, 2 marks and 4 tackles leaving him with 60 Dream Team points a game playing in 4 games over the 5 game carnival.

Cash Cow Potential: NAB Cup form has been reasonable as he develops. A player to monitor but unlikely to play early in 2012.

Comments: Markworth is a medium goal kicking forward taken at pick #35 in last years National Draft. He has strong skills and is a good lead up forward. He is athletically gifted but needs to improve his endurance for AFL level.

At TAC Cup level last year he played in 16 games averaging 16 possessions, 4 marks, 2 tackles and 2 goals amassing him 72 Dream Team points a game.

Cash Cow Potential: High upside but unlikely to feature early in the season. Has not been seen in NAB Cup action.

Comments: Siposs is a goal kicking forward. So much so he kicked 99 goals in a season several years ago for Beaconsfield in the Mornington Peninsula Football League. Siposs's assets are his deadly accurate set shot for goal and his strong pair of hands.

Cash Cow Potential: Expensive and not putting up great numbers in pre-season.

Comments: Cripps tore a quad muscle in pre-season training. This was another blow to Cripps after he was shutdown last season with an ankle injury. It was only a minor tear though and didn't keep him out for too long. It will only impact his pre-season training moderately, and has been playing in the NAB Cup.

Cripps can play across half back, half forward and even in the midfield. He has strong skills and will be pushing to get more opportunities in 2012. He was given the job of shutting speedy wingman Josh Hill down and both broke even.

Cash Cow Potential: He would be on the fringe of the Best 22, but is expensive.

Comments: Newnes was taken at Pick #37 in last years draft. He is a solid inside ball winning midfielder, who likes it tough and can lay a tackle. He has the flexibility to also play in defence or forward as well.

At TAC Cup level last year he played in 11 games averaging 23 possessions, 6 marks and 3 tackles amassing him 93 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 14 possessions, 4 marks and 2 tackles leaving him with 54 Dream Team points a game playing in 4 games over the 5 game carnival.

Cash Cow Potential: Only given a small opportunity in the 1st Round of NAB Cup and didn't do much. A player to monitor but not likely to feature early in 2012.

Comments: Milera is a mature aged recruit from South Australia. He has been playing in the SANFL and being personally trained by retired AFL star, Gavin Wanganeen. He is a medium forward who can rotate through the midfield. He has strong skills and can certainly get off the ground.

Cash Cow Potential: Milera has not played any NAB Cup game time as yet and is not currently in the Best 22. Unlikely to feature early.

Comments: Shenton is a mature aged recruit drafted by St Kilda in the 2012 Rookie Draft. He is 21 and is coming off a strong season at SANFL level with Norwood. He kicked 43 goals for the season and his body is ready made for the AFL.

Shenton seems like another ready made AFL player who St Kilda can now have waiting in the wings and watch develop under them.

Cash Cow Potential: He has had limited opportunity in NAB Cup action and is unlikely to feature early considering he is still Rookie Listed.
