This Cash Cow Ranking Report is based on the Elite Sports News Projected Statistics.

Using a computerised formula Elite Sports News is able to generate a player points Projector for Dream Team & SuperCoach using a series of objective criteria against numerical historical data. Some of the objective criteria are short & long term form, strength of opponent & home/away short & long term form to name a few. These projections are estimated to be at least 20% more accurate than merely relying on season averages. (This is based on our 2011 projected results & the 2011 season averages in testing)

Elite Sports News has put no subjectivety into the rankings of these players. It is purely based on what the projection software thinks.

*The Projection software does not know about injury, pre-season form or role changes. Its a software program to make sure you never overlook anybody. It has no feelings or bias towards teams or players. Please use it as a research tool to come to your own conclusions, rather than use it as fact.

Disclaimer: We are unaware if these players will in fact be named in Round 3. It makes it very difficult to show this ranking report with any form of confidence without knowing if they will be named. However, hopefully this list can give you some insight into some of the players who have performed well over the first 2 Rounds.

When you read TAC Cup and NAB Under 18 AFL Championships results keep in mind that they only compete in 20 minutes quarter, which is far less than AFL time on the ground. We have a rule of thumb that you should add 1/3rd of their score on top of it to give a better gauge of how dominant they are in juniors.

Comments: Magner is a small, tough, inside midfielder, who was drafted as a mature aged recruit and has put himself on the map in pre-season NAB Cup action. The playing group are right behind him, with Nathan Jones recently mentioning how impressed he is with Magner's attack on the ball and believes he is 'inspiring'. Magner's second Round NAB Cup match was when coaches took notice with 89DT points.

Last year at VFL level, Magner averaged 30 possessions a game, playing through the midfield as a tough, line breaking ball magnet.

Cash Cow Potential: If you do not have Magner in your side before Round 3, you are not understanding the concept of the game.

Comments: Greene can seriously win the hard ball. Last year in the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he was MVP for the top team, Vic Metro. His skill set is terrific and can make great decisions in and under. He is not exceptionally quick, but his accurate decision making always keeps his opposition guessing. Greene is the type of player Sheedy would like. He has a huge tank and will be ferocious at the tackle, working for every possession. A similar player to a Daniel Cross.

At TAC Cup level last year, he played in 9 games averaging 29 possessions, 3 marks and 4 tackles amassing him 98 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 25 possessions, 4 marks and 2 tackles, leaving him with 82 Dream Team points a game, playing in only 4 games over the 5 game carnival.


Cash Cow Potential: Job security was the issue in pre-season, but the way, he is playing injury or rest would be the only way to slow this cash cow down. The young players will be rotated frequently in and out of the side.

Comments: Kennedy was looked over in the 2010 National & Rookie Draft, which didn’t give you good feelings about his potential in pre-season, but that has quickly been overshadowed with his performance in the first 2 rounds. He won a lot of the ball at TAC Cup level, but he has a shaky kick on him. He has been an explosive scorer at TAC Cup level.

Cash Cow Potential: Job Security is the issue. But he is playing so well, they will likely play him several more games before a rotation. As a Forward, he is shaping as a profitable option.

Comments:
Giles is 24 years old and has had an eventful career, already being delisted by the Power in 2005. He sat on a SANFL club list for 4 years without selection until finally switching across to another SANFL club in 2010, in which he was named in the Team of the Year (Equivalent to All Australian). Last year he played for GWS in the QAFL after being drafted by them in the 2010 Rookie Draft.

Over the first 2 Rounds, he has been instrumental and a must own in your Ruck stocks. He seems quite agile for a big man and has a spot in the Best 22 for GWS.

Cash Cow Potential: A must have as a Ruck.

Comments: Buggs is a born leader. He Captained his Caulfield Grammar First XVIII team. Very vocal and loves the strategy in football. If Buggs is given an opportunity this year, it would be in defence. He has looked impressive in pre-season competition. He has been playing a defensive role on the playmakers in pre-season. Buggs has gone under the radar so far, as he missed quite a bit of football last year with school commitments.

Cash Cow Potential: Impressive youngster, who Sheedy loves. He is shaping as a very popular Cash Cow in teams as a Defender.

Comments: Smith is as tough as nails and puts his head over the ball every time. He will play through the midfield, but can also push forward when needed and kick goals. He has excellent endurance and will no doubt become a tackling machine. His body is ready to go at AFL level now and the only question mark is his efficiency by foot.

At TAC Cup level last year, he played in 11 games averaging 27 possessions, 7 marks, 6 tackles and 1.55 goals amassing him 120 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 17 possessions, 4 marks, 4 tackles and 1 goal leaving him with 77 Dream Team points a game over the 5 game carnival.

Cash Cow Potential: Smith has rocketed onto the scene with a Round 4 goal performance and then another solid performance in Round 2. The only thing holding him back is cramp, being subbed off late, not having the tank yet. He will only improve as the season continues.

Comments: Milera is a mature aged recruit from South Australia. He has been playing in the SANFL and being personally trained by retired AFL star, Gavin Wanganeen. He is a medium forward who can rotate through the midfield. He has strong skills and can certainly get off the ground.

Cash Cow Potential: Milera didn't perform exceptionally well in pre-season NAB Cup action, but has rocketed onto the scene after 2 Rounds, with 2 very solid performances. Job security is the only issue, but he is going ok so far.

Comments: Redden has set his sights on the Number 1 Ruck Role. Before NAB Cup action, Redden was looked at, as 3rd in line in the Ruck stocks at Port Adelaide, but some strong NAB Cup performances have put him into strong contention. Redden had a solid performance in the first round of NAB Cup action and then backed it up the following week finishing with 13 possessions, 2 marks, 6 tackles and 25 hitouts for 84 Dream Team points. With Renouf and Lobbe both suffering from injury interrupted pre-seasons, Redden is certainly flying under the radar.

Cash Cow Potential: So far so good. Subbed off in Round 2, with Power looking for some fresh legs, but would have had a strong score otherwise. Seems like the 2nd best option for Ruck Cash Cows.

Comments: Look out for this little kamikaze small forward to break onto the scene. He still needs to spend more time in the gym, but has a craft for snaring goals and relentlessly tackles and chases. He has great endurance and speed, but his skills will need to be cleaner for the AFL level. He may make it as a midfielder later down the track, but at this stage with the midfield competition at GWS, it’s best he finds a niche for himself as a crumbing small forward while he earns his AFL wings.

At TAC Cup level last year, he played in 5 games averaging 27 possessions, 4 marks, 7 tackles and 2.2 goals amassing him 125 Dream Team points a game.

In the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he averaged 19 possessions, 3 marks, 4 tackles and 1.75 goals leaving him with 85 Dream Team points a game playing in only 4 games over the 5 game carnival.

Cash Cow Smith was excellent in NAB Cup action and has been very solid in the first 2 Rounds of AFL. We would not be surprised if he is the biggest Forward Cash Cow in 2012 in several weeks time.

Comments: We liken Cameron to Tom Lynch last year in his first season. Cameron is a key forward who’s chances of playing Round 1 have taken a big improvement with the news of Patton being out until May. Cameron was another of Greater Western Sydney’s pre-selections, and has gone under the radar. Truth be told, Cameron could have easily been featuring in the Top 10 Draft picks, if it wasn’t for the pre-selection. At 6’4” and 90kgs, we are all aware that key forwards take longer to develop. He can take a strong contested mark and is quite agile for his size. He kicked 19 goals in 12 games playing for GWS in the QAFL. After watching him in the first 2 Rounds we doubt he can go above the 50-60 point range in either fantasy format. But he does have a spot in the Best 22 and we like that he is being shifted to defence late in games. A solid 80 in Round 2, but he did kick 4 goals to get that. Don't expect every week.

Cash Cow Potential: Cameron has lived up to pre-season form and maybe even exceed expectations a little. A reasonable option. Very similar to Tom Lynch from Gold Coast last year.
