Pickups of the Week - Ultimate Footy (Round 3)
Thursday, 12th April 2012
This is based on Ultimate Footy (Points Based) – Dream Team Scoring.
*Note – We discuss Ultimate Footy based on a Standard 10 Team League. (I.e. if a player is ranked 123, then he is a 12th Round Draft pick.)
The Projected Season Average is based on the Software Program. (We actually believe on many occasions, players will outperform this) It is purely objective. The Projection software does not know about injury, pre-season form or role changes. Its a software program to make sure you never overlook anybody. It has no feelings or bias towards teams or players. Please use it as a research tool to come to your own conclusions, rather than use it as fact.
Why are free agent pickups important?
Free Agents are basically Cash Cows for Ultimate Footy. By getting some strong Free Agent picks during the season, it sets you up for the finals and trade bait.
Will all of these Free Agent picks below turn into terrific value picks? No. Of course not. We are just trying to give you some ideas of players who may fit the build of being overlooked. This may help you come up with some good picks yourself.
Please Note: This is not in Free Agent potential order. It is in Projected Dream Team Average Scoring order.
PLEASE NOTE: ONLY PLAYERS OWNED IN LESS THAN 70% OF ULTIMATE FOOTY LEAGUES ARE LISTED BELOW IN PICKUPS OF THE WEEK
1 Toby Greene M Greater Western Sydney Giants $0 |

Comments: Greene can seriously win the hard ball. Last year in the NAB Under 18 AFL Championships he was MVP for the top team, Vic Metro. His skill set is terrific and can make great decisions in and under. He is not exceptionally quick, but his accurate decision making always keeps his opposition guessing. He is the type of player Sheedy would like. He has a huge tank and will be ferocious at the tackle, working for every possession. A similar player to a Daniel Cross.
After 2 Rounds, it quite clear Greene can win a bucket load of the ball. Can he hold his position and sustain this level? While we wait for this answer, he looks worthy of a spot on your bench. |

Projected Season Average:
96.00
% Ownership:

Comments: Anthony needs to be owned in all leagues at the stage. Anthony has made a shift into defence in pre-season after struggling to hold a position in the young and upcoming midfield, with the likes of Jack Ziebell and Ryan Bastinac being far more disciplined and running both ways.
He has started off early in terrific form. The reason we suggest you pick him up, is not just for his early season form, but the likely chance that in the coming few weeks, Ultimate Footy adds the rightful Defence tag to his name. Mighty relevant then. |

3 Sharrod Wellingham M Collingwood Magpies $0 |

Projected Season Average:
78.00
% Ownership:
67.00
Comments: Wellingham will return soon from a club imposed suspension and has been collecting a huge amount of the ball at lower level. At 23 years old, playing through the prestigious Collingwood midfield for 2 seasons now, entering his 3rd season, he is likely approaching a level valuable to owners. He does normally play a tagging role, but is improving every game at winning his own ball.

Projected Season Average:

% Ownership:

Comments: Bastinac has just come off of 138DT points in Round 2. It was against GWS you say? It doesn't matter. You pay respect to players who can score that highly, no matter who they play against. That is a huge score and he sitting on the player market. Bastanac is in a contract year and GWS are in fact sniffing about. He is shaping to make a big leap in 2012.
