Trade Table - Go After, Get Rid Of or Hold
Tuesday, 17th April 2012
Trading is one of the best things about Draft Style Fantasy Gaming. But when you trade with your friends, nobody likes to look stupid. For this matter, people are very cautious with accepting trades and you need to really play it well to get a trade over the line.
Stop offering trades for their best players and offering all of your mediocre players in return. IT WILL NOT WORK!
Don’t just think about yourself. Do a bit of research into the opposition’s team and find out what they may need. Are they short a premium Defender and you can spare one? Talk to the owners and see which players they really like and would never give up and which players are on the chopping block. Research is the key!
So how do you win out with trades?
For starters you need to take chances at predicting player’s future performance. Anybody can study player averages, look at return dates from injury and where the player was drafted in your league Draft in pre-season. Then line them all up in a trade with the numbers reasonably even but in your head quite one sided towards who you want. What you are doing here is simply hoping your opponent is an idiot!
Here is the essence to trading. Learn to target player breakouts for 2012. Taking risks can pay handsomely, as the one thing we have noticed over the years of playing this format. Player Breakouts make owners nervous early on! “What if they don’t sustain this level?” In the early outset you can offer those old reliable players with little upside for these Breakout Stars and you just never know! Forget about where you drafted players! The Draft is over!
Who in your league got Brendan Whitecross? Last year a player in our league successfully traded out Alan Didak & Daniel Cross for Jared Redden & Matt Suckling in the early rounds. Be ready to accept judgment with moves like that. Plenty laughed at this trade in our league. Look who got the final laugh.
Below is a Ranking Article separated into sections: Go After – Get Rid Of – Hold
Go After – Offer trades to the owner’s of these players and see if you can pry them from their hands.
Get Rid Of – These are the players you own which are shaping to be dangerous picks and you should try and get them out of your side immediately.
Hold – Perhaps it is best you hold onto these players and hope they improve fast!
This Ranking List is based on Ultimate Footy (Points Based) – Dream Team Scoring.
*Note – We discuss Ultimate Footy based on a Standard 10 Team League. (I.e. if a player is ranked 123, then he is a 12th Round Draft pick.)

1 Dustin Martin F/M Richmond Tigers $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 72.7 |
Projected Season Average:
83.00
2011 Average:
89.50
Comments: A brilliant trade target. See if your league has a disgruntled owner. Dustin Martin is a fantasy star. This is very uncharacteristic of Martin to begin the season. He is not only a very good Forward option, but hugely explosive. He will certainly turn things around. Treat the owner with respect though. Think of Martin in this sense. If he jumped out of the blocks and averaged 110 a game after 3 games you would have never got a chance to own him. Here is a chance to get your hands on a star. Make sure you pay for him or the owner will not accept.

2 Jack Grimes D/M Melbourne Demons $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 65.3 |
Projected Season Average:
82.00
2011 Average:
74.00
Comments: Grimes has had a terrible start to the season. He is far superior to a 65 average. He is the Captain of Melbourne and will battle on all season. As a Defender, he has the potential to average in the 90s as he gets up to speed. We suggest you put the feelers out on him. See if the owner will bite. Put a 80s average player on the board for him.

3 David Zaharakis F/M Essendon Bombers $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 79.3 |
Projected Season Average:
88.00
2011 Average:
89.73
Comments: Zaharakis is a jet in the forward lines. The 47 Dream Team he served up on the weekend is offensive. He is a much better player than that. Zaharakis can easily average in the 90s as a premium Forward in your side. Have a play for him.

4 Travis Boak M Port Adelaide Power $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 67.7 |
Projected Season Average:
81.00
2011 Average:
86.14
Comments: Boak has had a very poor start to the 2012 season. It is unexplainable in our minds. He is a terrific football player. Port Adelaide is improving in 2012, and you would think Boak improving would go hand in hand. Boak averaged 94 points a game in 2010 and we suspect he can still improve on that level. Target him for a value pick. Try and off load a forward or midfielder averaging in the 80s. Boak in our minds is a 90s average with a 100+ average potential upside to him.

5 Andrew Swallow M North Melbourne Kangaroos $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 92.7 |
Projected Season Average:
96.00
2011 Average:
99.36
Comments: Swallow has not jumped out of the blocks in 2012. If you own him, you would be disappointed with his efforts. Swallow can average 100+ in your midfield. Look for a frustrated owner and see if they will bite at something below Swallow’s potential.

6 Cyril Rioli F/M Hawthorn Hawks $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 69.7 |
Projected Season Average:
81.00
2011 Average:
86.88
Comments: Rioli has been poor to begin the season. All we heard in Pre-season was about Rioli being fitter than ever. Changing his running style to get less injured. More midfield time. We suspect Rioli has hit rock bottom right now and you may be able to get some value for him, with a frustrated owner.

7 Dale Thomas M Collingwood Magpies $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 90 |
Projected Season Average:
102.00
2011 Average:
102.95
Comments: Thomas is a gut busting, endurance running superstar. He has been quite average to begin the season. Critics have been giving him an absolute serve, that he is not the same player this season. We suspect he will turn things around as early as this week to prove the doubters wrong. Go after him! Thomas is very explosive. He has a lot of upside. You might get an owner prepared to let him go.

8 Ivan Maric R Richmond Tigers $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 80 |
Projected Season Average:
70.00
2011 Average:
59.00
Comments: Maric looks the real deal early as a strong 80s Ruck option. Try and buy the tickets on him now before the owner finds out how strong a backup option he truly is. In a 10 team league, Maric is playable in your side with the Ruck option quite shallow.

9 Tom Rockliff M Brisbane Lions $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 94 |
Projected Season Average:
118.00
2011 Average:
112.05
Comments: If you can get your hands on Rockliff, you should be so lucky! He is still a Round 1 Draft pick in our books and it is a long season. If you can get his owner to move him for under his 1st Round price tag, do it. He has huge upside and will be a really strong Captain option when he gets his form back on track in the coming few rounds.
10 Tendai Mzungu D/M Fremantle Dockers $0 |
2012 Games Played: 3
Season Average: 93.3 |
Projected Season Average:
85.00
2011 Average:
80.86
Comments: Mzungu looks the real deal in Defence this year. He was taken at 6-8th Round value, but looks a fair bit better than that in the early outset. He knows how to find the ball and in a shallow Defence, he is shaping as a 3-4th Round Draft pick next year.
